RALEIGH, N.C. (June 17, 2025) – Wake Tech welcomed a delegation of 22 officials from East Asia and the Pacific to its RTP Campus on Tuesday.

The delegation with the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) learned about the college's Cybersecurity training and how Wake Tech is addressing workforce needs in this fast-growing field. The visit was coordinated in partnership with International Focus, a Raleigh-based nonprofit that connects international visitors with North Carolina institutions.

Delegates toured the Lilly Science and Technology Center, where Anthony Lucas, department head for Cybersecurity, showcased simulation labs and hands-on learning environments designed to prepare students for real-world challenges. They also heard from Wake Tech IT leaders about how strong industry partnerships and ongoing innovation ensure programs stay relevant and impactful.

"It's really amazing what you are doing here," said I Gede Putu Rahman Desyanta, a delegate from Indonesia. "Focusing on three levels, starting from high school, going into associate degrees and helping people earn certifications. There is so much opportunity for a program like this in our country. It could really help both our private sector and local governments."

Delegates asked thoughtful questions about how Wake Tech builds partnerships, recruits students, prepares learners to respond to cyberattacks and tailors instruction to local industry needs. Wake Tech's Sentinel cybersecurity boot camp, funded by a U.S. National Science Foundation grant, drew particular praise.

Several delegates expressed interest in Wake Tech's programs.

"Your presentation is inspiring me to want to come study cybersecurity here,” one delegate said, while others asked about scholarship opportunities and online options for international students studying from abroad.

In addition to their visit to Wake Tech, the group attended a NASCAR race, visited the North Carolina coast and enjoyed dinner with local families as part of the cultural exchange experience during their week in the United States.

Through programs like IVLP and partnerships with organizations like International Focus, Wake Tech plays an active role in strengthening international relationships and preparing students for a global workforce. The college recently launched its Global Education program, offering increased Study Abroad opportunities and more than 70 global-intensive courses that incorporate international themes and real-world applications.

More than 2,000 students from 130 countries are studying at Wake Tech. The college provides admissions guidance and resources for them through its International Students Office. It also has an International Friends Club and hosts an annual International Day celebration every year.
