RALEIGH, N.C. (June 10, 2025) – State of North Carolina employees expanded their knowledge of artificial intelligence Tuesday at Wake Tech's Scott Northern Wake Campus. The college hosted the North Carolina Department of Information Technology's Innovation Day, which focused on the power of AI as a transformative workplace tool.
Hundreds of employees from higher education institutions, the City of Raleigh, the Governor's Office and other state agencies attended the event and learned about opportunities AI offers to enhance performance and drive innovation.
In his keynote remarks, I-Sah Hsieh, deputy secretary for AI Policy with the Department of Information Technology (DIT), encouraged attendees to embrace, not fear, how the new technology can improve efficiency and productivity.
"The goal is to have the most AI-literate state workforce," Hsieh said. "AI is shifting so fast that, wherever you start, you're not behind. AI has made it so that we're now solving problems in a different way."
Hands-on breakout sessions demonstrated how Microsoft 365 tools, including Copilot, can optimize meeting management, content creation, data analysis, email and task organization and more. Wake Tech Vice President of Information Technology Dr. Ryan Schwiebert was part of a leadership panel that featured state technology experts from Microsoft, DIT and the City of Raleigh who talked about the smart use and growth of AI.
The event was sponsored by Wake Tech, the City of Raleigh, DIT, Microsoft and Planet Technologies.
