Wake Tech Launches New Brand

RALEIGH, N.C. (December 5, 2012) - Many students who attend Wake Tech Community College describe the experience as “life changing.” They say they’ve learned new skills, earned promotions, started their own companies, even found the job of their dreams. They’ve gained confidence and achieved success for themselves, their families, and the community. As Wake Tech prepares for its 50th anniversary, the college is launching a new brand identity to reflect the impact it has had and continues to have on the region.

Wake Tech partnered with VisionPoint Marketing of Raleigh to develop the new brand. Working with students, employees, and members of the community, VisionPoint helped Wake Tech identify the attributes that define the college: reputable, passionate, welcoming, high-quality, and most important, life-changing. Those attributes were the inspiration for the new logo and message. When students complete a program of study or earn a degree at Wake Tech, they change their lives and the lives of their families forever – and they have a positive impact on the entire community.

The new logo is a torch, suggesting light to lead the way and illuminate the path for students and for the community. The letters “WT” make up the torch, with the lines of the “W” representing the flame and the “T” creating the handle. The logo is accompanied by the tagline, “Lead the way.”

“Wake Tech’s new logo signifies a life-changing journey,” says Laurie Clowers, Associate Vice President of Communications. “Wherever you want to go, Wake Tech can help get you there. Our dedicated and passionate faculty and staff are here to lead the way. And all those who embark on such a journey lead the way for themselves, their families, and many others.”

Wake Tech has adopted the following brand positioning statement:

“Providing higher education, specialized training, and workforce development for the greater Wake County community, Wake Technical Community College changes lives. The college offers high-quality instruction and support for all students, regardless of previous academic achievement or financial situation. Wake Tech’s distinctively passionate instructors and leaders provide a welcoming and supportive environment in which everyone can learn and thrive.”

Wake Tech will use the new brand in all advertising, marketing, and institutional publications online and in print. Messaging will reflect the positioning statement and college attributes. Wake Tech’s official colors, blue and gold, and its eagle athletics symbol will remain the same.
