Wake Tech Receives Resources For Job Seekers
RALEIGH, N.C. (November 21, 2013) - Wake Tech Community College now offers financial assistance aimed at helping people get back to work. Funding is available through the NC Back-to-Work program for short-term training programs in specific entry-level technical jobs, including computer technology, biotechnology, and maintenance and construction trades. The programs are open to military veterans, NC National Guard members, and any North Carolina resident who is unemployed or “underemployed.” Financial assistance includes all registration and certification exam fees, books, supplies, one-on-one coaching, and job placement assistance. Students will earn career-specific, industry-recognized credentials, as well as the NC Career Readiness Certificate.
Wake Tech’s NC Back-to-Work training programs include:
- CompTIA A+ Certification: Students will train on basic computer hardware and operating systems, including installation, configuration, and basic diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate Certification (CCNA): Students will learn the basics of computer networking using Cisco routers and switches. Topics include IP addressing, basic router configuration, routing protocols and much more.
- BioWork Process Technician: The BioWork program equips students for entry-level employment as process technicians – essential players in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical manufacturing industries.
- Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians: This course prepares students for entry-level maintenance positions in the multifamily and apartment housing industry. Topics include the apartment business, electrical systems, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and appliance repair.
- Introduction to Construction Trades: Students will gain the skills and certifications necessary to obtain work with contracting companies as entry-level employees. This course covers the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum and gives students 88 hours of pre-apprenticeship training.
- Other programs available to veterans and NC National Guard only: Nurse Aide training and Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B).
“Wake Tech is extremely excited about these training options for job seekers who need in-demand skills now,” said Anthony Caison, Vice President of Continuing Education Services. “These classes can be completed within 6 months; they were specifically selected for the NC Back-to-Work grant program because they lead to third-party credentials that improve employability.”
Funding is made possible by an NC Back-to-Work grant of $120,000 from the State Board of Community Colleges. Training is short-term and focused on skill competencies that lead to industry-recognized or state-regulated credentials.
