Employees and Students Recognized for Excellence

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 18, 2018) - Wake Tech Community College recognized students, faculty, and staff at its annual Excellence Awards – held tonight in the Student Services Building on the Southern Wake Campus. President Dr. Stephen Scott gave awards to 17 faculty and staff members for their service and dedication, as well as other special awards for outstanding contributions to the college.

Three staff members received the Excellence in Leadership Award:

  • Carrie E.S. Bartek, Effectiveness and Innovation
  • Shemika Bell, Human Resources
  • Phil Faucette, Communications and Marketing

One staff member received the Excellence in Executive Leadership Award:

  • John W. Saparilas, Enrollment Services

Four staff members received the Excellence in Service Award:

  • Adele Abreu, Information Technology Services
  • Michael L. Bussey, Information Technology Services
  • Megan Heard, Workforce Continuing Education
  • C. Hope Shell, Curriculum Education Services

Eight faculty members received the Excellence in Teaching Award:

  • Carrie Carreno-Zingaro, Instructional Support  
  • Harvey Hall, Business and Public Services Technologies
  • Amber Marie Johnson, Computer Technologies
  • Dr. Brandie Littlefield, Mathematics, Sciences, and Engineering
  • Sharon M. Pastor, Health Sciences
  • Sameer Pawa, Service Occupations
  • Mary K. Rowland, Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
  • Gerald Y. Yeaney, Applied Engineering and Technologies

One adjunct faculty member received the Excellence in Teaching Award:

  • Dayna E. Artim, Health Sciences

Each winner received a plaque and a cash award.

Two winners were given special awards: Dr. Brandie Littlefield was named Wake Tech’s Instructor of the Year, and Phil Faucette was named Staff Member of the Year. They will represent Wake Tech at the statewide NCCCS Excellence Competition.

Six students received the Dwight O. Ryan Achievement Award:

  • Sarah Badore, Computer Technologies  
  • Kristina Cardia, Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
  • Daisy Nicole Fry-Brumit, Mathematics, Science, and Engineering
  • Jose Rivera, Applied Engineering and Technologies
  • Reece Thortsen, Business and Public Services Technologies
  • Steven Lindberg Wade, Health Sciences

Jose Rivera was named the 2018 Student of Academic Excellence.
