Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology Students Win National Scholarships

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 14, 2014) - Two Wake Tech students have gained national attention as recipients of scholarships from the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, established by Mike Rowe of cable television’s “Dirty Jobs.” Jason Hynes and Ryan Kellish, both completing degrees in Wake Tech’s Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology program, have received $1,000 scholarships from the foundation.

Hynes completed a cooperative work experience with Gregory Poole Equipment Company last summer; he will graduate next month with an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree and plans to work in equipment repair. Kellish, also earning an AAS degree in May, plans to use the scholarship funds to purchase top-quality tools for use in his future career.

The mikeroweWORKS Foundation supports students who want to pursue careers in the skilled trades. It awards the scholarships to top equipment technology students from institutions accredited by Associated Equipment Distributors.

In a special presentation, both students received a $1,000 check and scholarship certificate, along with a signed photo of Mike Rowe.
