Duke Energy Announces $250,000 In Support for Critical Wake Tech Programs
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 15, 2014) - Duke Energy has announced its support for Wake Tech’s new initiative aimed at training a “mission critical” workforce – preparing workers to handle the structures and systems that keep business operations running. Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott was presented with a check for $250,000 today by the Duke Energy Foundation. The funds will purchase equipment for the new Mission Critical Operations program, which includes training in process automation and wastewater management systems.
The combined learning systems are designed to meet a variety of training and vocational requirements. Training projects include planning, assembly, programming, system operation, optimization of control parameters, maintenance, commissioning, and fault finding. Students using this equipment will gain technical, methodological, and social competence.

This grant is part of Duke Energy’s $6.7 million investment in the North Carolina Community College System, supporting its focus on technical education and support for business and industry. Since 2004, Duke Energy has awarded $15 million in grants to 24 community colleges within the Duke Energy Carolinas service area. This new $6.7 million investment also includes community colleges in the company’s service area.
