Wake Tech Community Comes Together for Hard-Working Student

Raleigh, N.C. (May 14, 2014) - Wake Tech graduate David Roman is taking the first step toward a career in politics, thanks to hard work and determination – and the help of friends at Wake Tech. David leaves Saturday to begin a summer internship in the office of Representative David Price in Washington, D.C. He was thrilled about the appointment but concerned that he lacked appropriate attire and the resources required for life in D.C.

That’s when the Wake Tech community rallied to make David’s opportunity a reality. A number of college leaders – including President Stephen Scott – donated suits, ties, and funds to help with living expenses, and helped David find accommodations to make his stay in D.C. affordable. With the help of these supporters, David is now well prepared for a successful summer internship experience.

David says he would not be in this position without Wake Tech: “I am appreciative of all the support I have received from the Wake Tech family. I am overjoyed and full of positive energy from the people here.”

During his time at the college, David has taken advantage of every opportunity presented to him. He’s served as a Senator for the Student Government Association, volunteered to assist the homeless with the International Friends Club, and remained active with Campus Crusade for Christ. He graduated in May with an Associate in Arts degree and a 4.0 GPA.

“David has been a hard-working, enthusiastic student here, and we all wanted to make sure he represented Wake Tech well in Washington,” says Northern Wake Campus Services Director Dana Teague. “David is a student worthy of this opportunity, and we’re very proud of him!”

Of everything the Wake Tech community provided, David says nothing means more to him than the Wake Tech lapel pins Dr. Scott placed on every suit jacket. “Wake Tech is always in my heart, and now I will be able to show everyone how much it means to me.”
