Wake Tech “Tops Out” On Building F

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 12 2014) - Workers with Skanska USA raised the final beam on Building F at Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus today. A “Topping Out” Celebration was held at the construction site. “Topping Out” is a traditional event marking the completion of the structural frame of a new building. As part of the tradition, guests were invited to sign the beam, and workers placed a small evergreen on the structure to symbolize growth and to bring good luck.

“Thank you for the work you’ve done,” said Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott. Dr. Scott recognized Skanska workers, as well as Wake Tech’s Project Manager Jim Opdenbrouw. “We celebrate your accomplishment so far, and look forward to the rest of this building taking shape.”

Building F will have more than 87,000 square feet of space for a library and learning commons, classrooms, a tutoring center, and disability support services. It will be completed next year. The $21.5 million project was part of the 2012 bond referendum, which passed with 73% of the vote.

“This building will be the heart of this campus,” said Dr. Gayle Greene, Senior Vice President for the Northern Wake Campus.

“Skanska is proud to be here at Wake Tech,” said Skanska General Manager Steve Stouthamer, He praised Skanska workers for their stellar safety record and reminded them of the company’s commitment to high quality: “Wake Tech is counting on having this building for years to come!”.
