Business Leaders Preview Wake Tech’s Innovative New RTP Campus
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 29, 2015) - RTP business leaders had a glimpse of the future today as they learned about the “next-generation learning environment” Wake Tech is creating at its new RTP Campus in Morrisville. The innovative, 94-acre campus, located on NC Highway 54 near I-540, will open in the fall of 2017 to serve individuals and corporations in western Wake County and RTP. Education and training programs at the new RTP Campus will prepare the highly-skilled technicians and professionals our growing region demands – with the flexibility and adaptability to respond to the needs of local industry.
College credit programs earmarked for the campus include Global Logistics, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Information Technology, Networking, 3D Training and Simulation, Data Storage and Virtualization, Cyber Security and Forensics, Web-enabled Applications Services, and No SQL Data Analytics. Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degree programs for College/University Transfer will also be available at the RTP Campus. Non-credit programs will include Corporate Solutions and Biotechnology training.
Program offerings may change, and others may be added, says Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott: “We’re focused on serving companies in this area, and our program planning is based on that. We hope to hear from more and more local companies so that we can visit their sites and find out how we can best meet their unique training needs.”
Like all Wake Tech campuses, the RTP Campus will provide a wide array of support services for students, including admissions, advising, and financial aid.
Groundbreaking for the RTP Campus is scheduled for April 2016 The first phase of construction will include a four-story, 125,000-square-foot classroom building with 30 classrooms, three science labs, an auditorium, a learning commons and library, and a regional energy plant – along with an 800-space parking lot. The $55 million dollar project includes road improvements and infrastructure. Construction costs will be covered by funds from the 2012 bond referendum that Wake County voters overwhelmingly approved. Designer for Phase One is Perkins+Will, and Construction Managers at Risk are Clancy-Theys and Holt Brothers.
Initial construction on the RTP Campus (Phase I) will serve approximately 1,000 students. Ultimately, the campus will have nine buildings and serve as many as 7,000 students.
