Career Transitions Group To Become A Wake Tech Workforce Continuing Education Program
RALEIGH, N.C. (December 4, 2015) - Unemployed professionals in the Triangle will soon have a new resource at Wake Tech. Career Transitions - StepUp, a leading Triangle career transitions group, will become a new program in Wake Tech’s Human Resources Development (HRD) division in January 2016. The program will be renamed Career Transitions Forum and will offer a weekly lecture series for business professionals looking to advance their careers.
“We’re very pleased to be able to offer the services of this highly-regarded career transitions group to those looking for employment in management and other professional positions,” said Paul F. Jenkins, Wake Tech Associate Dean of HRD, Technology and Special Programs.
Career Transitions Forum will meet on Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh. The meetings will start January 14. They’ll be moderated by Gail McCowan, a Wake Tech instructor and career coach who previously worked with GE and IBM. She has a BS in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill. Other Wake Tech faculty and volunteer advisors will also take part.
Career Transitions-StepUp, a part of StepUp Ministry, has served thousands of unemployed and underemployed people since its founding in 2008 as the White Memorial Presbyterian Church Career Transition Support Group.
Although the Triangle’s unemployment rate has improved overall, challenges remain for those over 40 who are no longer eligible for unemployment compensation, are underemployed, or have become discouraged about looking for work.
