Wake Tech Adds New Indoor Firearms Range To Public Safety Campus

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 18, 2016) - One of the most advanced public safety training facilities in the country has a new addition! Wake Tech’s Public Safety Education Campus (PSEC) celebrated the completion of a 35,000-square-foot expansion project today with a ribbon cutting and open house. The new space includes a 12-lane indoor firearms range, two defensive tactics rooms, firearms training simulation, and a telecommunications classroom/lab. A barbering lab/classroom and two vocational labs are also part of the expansion.

Today’s open house included a tour of the new space and interactive demonstrations. Guests included members of the Wake Tech Board of Trustees, community leaders, and local law enforcement officials, including Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison. Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott fired a ceremonial first shot at the indoor firing range.

“Our Public Safety Education Campus provides state-of-the-art technology and training techniques for safety professionals,” said Dr. Scott. “This expansion makes the campus even more valuable as a community resource – adding to the skills training and competency building available to law enforcement, first responders, and other officials who serve the region.”

Wake Tech’s PSEC opened in 2008 and is a recognized CALEA accredited training facility. It offers more training technologies and components under one roof than any other facility of its kind. The facility includes a forensics lab, an incident command Center, simunition and defensive tactics rooms, and a mock courtroom and jail. The campus now encompasses more than 100,000 square feet.

The PSEC offers Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S) degree programs in Criminal Justice and Fire Protection Technology and in-service training for law enforcement and corrections officers, fire and rescue personnel, EMS technicians, and SBI and Homeland Security personnel. This campus also offers Basic Law Enforcement Training, Detention Officer Certification Training, and Telecommunications Certification Training.
