Wake Tech, Raleigh Partnership Expands Free Bus Service For Students

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 31, 2016) - Wake Tech students can now ride GoRaleigh buses to the college’s many local campuses – for free! The college announced today that it has expanded its partnership with the City of Raleigh to extend free bus service to Wake Tech’s Northern Wake, Perry Health Sciences, and Public Safety Education campuses and Beltline Education Center. Main Campus has provided free bus service for some time, but the expanded service will benefit the hundreds of students who visit Wake Tech’s other locations each day.

“We’re very grateful to the city for this collaboration!” said Butch Grove, who heads Wake Tech’s Creativity, Sustainability, and College Improvement division. “The GoPass program improves access for students trying to get to Wake Tech campuses from their homes or jobs. This is a red-letter day!”

Raleigh Transit Administrator David Eatman agrees. “We’re excited about this partnership! It will benefit students and give them an opportunity to explore the city. It serves the entire community.”

Students will now be able to ride any GoRaleigh bus to a Wake Tech location with a swipe of their GoPass card. The college has issued 200 GoPass cards so far and can accommodate hundreds of additional requests. The cards are available at Wake Tech ID offices.

Shaw University and St. Augustine’s University have joined Wake Tech in the GoPass program. NC State University, Meredith College, the City of Raleigh, and Wake County government are also enrolled.
