Wake Tech Students Present War Experience Exhibit

Student-Curated Show in Downtown Raleigh Explores Triangle Veterans’ Memories

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 1, 2017) - A special museum exhibit presented by Wake Tech students opened today at the City of Raleigh Museum. America’s Wars: Individual Experience and Collective Memory is sponsored by a first-ever grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities.

Students curated the powerful exhibit, which features hundreds of personal artifacts and mementos – medals, uniforms, maps, letters, photographs, and more. The items document the experiences of Triangle war veterans. The goal is to explore the interaction between home front and combat zone, how war is remembered, and how those memories are shared with others.

America’s Wars: Individual Experience and Collective Memory is part of an NEH project that incorporates veterans’ perspectives into courses in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The project includes new curriculum material, a digitally-archived oral history, and guest lecturers.

The exhibit runs through November 2017. Admission is free. Museum Hours are Tuesdays - Saturdays 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sundays 1-4 p.m.
