RALEIGH, N.C. (April 3, 2023) – Wake Tech welcomed more than 1,100 prospective students and their families at the annual spring Open House on Saturday.
The college hosted the event at Scott Northern Wake and Perry Health Sciences campuses.
Faculty and staff shared information on academic programs and enrollment and support resources while student ambassadors gave attendees walking tours and shared their firsthand experiences. Prospective students got to see classrooms and state-of-the-art labs for technical and health care programs. Information sessions were held on admissions, financial aid, career services, dual enrollment and university transfer.
Families also learned about the college's Free Book Fall promotion. Students will enjoy a major cost saving this fall – free books – as the college transitions to a new program with its bookstore, Barnes & Noble College. "Eagle Advantage" is a pilot program that will allow students in degree programs to pay a flat fee to rent their textbooks instead of purchasing each one separately. When the program launches for the Fall semester, Wake Tech will pick up the tab. Learn more at waketech.edu/bookstore.
Donovan Burroughs said he enjoyed the Academic and Resource Fair and received a lot of helpful guidance from faculty and staff.
"What I'm really interested in is IT, business analytics and game development, and I'm just trying to narrow it down to one of those career areas," he said. "I was able to talk to plenty of people, and they clarified some things for me. Everyone here is amazing and very helpful."
New students can apply for admission at apply.waketech.edu. Once admitted, they can register for Summer and Fall classes, beginning April 20.
The college is also offering an opportunity to learn about non-degree, fast-track training during Workforce Wednesday, a virtual information session from 5 to 7 p.m. April 19. Sign up to join at visit.waketech.edu.
