Students Excel at SkillsUSA National Competition

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 11, 2022) – Two Wake Tech students and one student from Vernon Malone College and Career Academy earned awards in the annual SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC), held June 20-24 in Atlanta.
- Amani Asad, Wake Tech, Esthetics: Asad placed second overall with Kristain Clark as her model. Asad earned the highest score on the written test portion of the Esthetics competition.
- Benjamin Pajerski, Wake Tech, Welding: Pajerski placed 16th overall and earned a perfect score with his interview portion of the competition.
- Kamila Morales, VMCCA, Nursing Assisting: Morales placed 14th overall and received perfect scores on adult CPR and patient transfer.
There were more than 6,500 Career and Technical Education (CTE) students from 53 states and territories competing in 108 trade, technical and leadership events. North Carolina’s delegation included 192 CTE students from one middle school, 42 high schools and 16 community colleges. These students won their respective state competitions to qualify to compete at the national level.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. A nonprofit national education association, SkillsUSA serves middle school, high school and college/post-secondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
