New Provost Named for IT, Business Programs and RTP Campus
RALEIGH, N.C. (January 27, 2026) – Wake Tech is excited to welcome Tim Humphrey as its new provost of Information Technology and Business programs and the RTP Campus.
In this role, Humphrey will provide strategic and operational leadership for Wake Tech's Information Technology and Business & Professional Services divisions while also overseeing operations and partnerships at the RTP Campus. His appointment comes at a pivotal moment as the college continues to expand its workforce-aligned programs in support of regional economic growth and student success.
Humphrey brings more than 30 years of global leadership experience from IBM and Lenovo, where he has held senior executive roles across data analytics, artificial intelligence, enterprise operations, software development, supply chain and innovation. He holds multiple patents and has received numerous management, innovation and excellence awards for his contributions to the computing industry. In 2018, he was inducted into North Carolina State University's Electrical and Computing Engineering Hall of Fame.
He currently serves as IBM's chief analytics officer, senior state executive for North Carolina and senior location executive for the company's Research Triangle Park site, its largest location in North America. Across these roles, he has led large-scale transformations, built high-performing teams and delivered billions of dollars in business value through data-driven strategy and operational excellence.
In addition to his corporate leadership, Humphrey has a strong record of engagement with higher education and the broader community. He serves as the vice chair of N.C. State's Board of Trustees and has participated in university affairs, audits and executive searches. He is also deeply committed to mentorship, workforce development and community service, serving on numerous nonprofit and civic boards across the region, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County and UNC Health.

A North Carolina native who lives in Raleigh, Humphrey earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from N.C. State. He begins his new role March 1.
