Description

The Performing Arts Club is holding auditions to cast four student-directed plays for a staged reading in November.

  • The Reckoning, directed by Dallin Cox (horror/suspense encounter between two people, one of whom wants revenge)
  • Trigger Warning, directed by Gavin Hamilton (anti-gun violence comedy)
  • The Reckoning (revamped), directed and adapted by Poorsha Kazemi (modern adaptation of a classic short work)
  • CurlPower, directed (and written) by Faith Nicole Cabbell (comedy set in a 1970s hair salon)

There are 19 roles to offer actors of many genders, races, ages and/or abilities. Because of the culturally significant nature of CurlPower, at least eight of those roles must be students who identify as Black.

Staged readings do not require memorization, so they are ideal for students at any experience level. No need to prepare a monologue! We will use cold-readings of the play-texts.

Following the auditions, the first staged-reading rehearsals will be held. A staged reading "tech" rehearsal will be held at 3 p.m. November 14 in the Scott Northern Wake Campus Lecture Hall. The live staged-reading performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. November 21 in the Lecture Hall.

Come have fun with the Performing Arts Club, and try your hand at acting in a low-pressure environment.
