Wake Tech is closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Prospective students can still apply online, and current students can register for Spring semester classes. All classes will resume and offices will reopen on Monday morning.
Students in the Electrical Systems Technology program must demonstrate the following abilities and meet the following standards:
Sufficient visual capacity to read prints, schematics and other documents, as well as meters and testers
Clearly distinguish all the primary colors
Good peripheral vision and depth perception
Hearing tones of various pitches emitted by testers and meters
Hearing equipment running and/or operating to determine if working correctly
Communicate with co-workers at a moderate distance without line of sight
Climb ladders up to 35 feet in height while carrying tools and equipment
Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and install equipment overhead
No debilitating fear of heights, crawl spaces or confined spaces
Work with many type of tools and wear a tool pouch for up to 10 hours per day
Wear hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes and other safety-related equipment as required by the industry
The electrical trade is one with many inherent risks, and safety of the employee (student) is of the utmost concern and cannot and should not be compromised just because an individual wants to go into the trade.
