The application process is as follows for applying Online:
- Apply for an FSA ID at https://fsaid.ed.gov.
Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents. If you are a dependent student, the parent signing the application will also need an FSA ID.
- Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
You will need to include income information from the prior, prior year's tax return and w2s (and that of your parents if applicable). Using an estimate or old tax return information will slow down the processing of your financial aid.
Use your FSA ID to sign electronically. Be sure to have your parent sign using the parent FSA ID if you are a dependent student.
The Federal Processing Center processes your information and you should receive a response within 1-3 weeks. If you do not get a response from them, call 1-800-433-3243.
Be sure to include the Wake Technical Community College school code: 004844
Whether you apply online or by paper, once Wake Tech has received your processed information electronically from the processing center, we will contact you by e-mail. Please provide any forms and/or documentation requested as soon as possible.
The Federal Processing Center randomly chooses 30% of all applications to verify. Also, Wake Tech has the authority to select applicants for verification if there is a conflict of information. This means Wake Tech is given the authority also to request verification documentation which may include tax returns and W2s and documentation verifying untaxed income. Requested forms are also provided online for you to print and complete. Please do not submit documentation until it is requested.
