Photoshop: Edit & Design Like a Pro

Students will learn the two main sections of Photoshop: the Original Editor and Adobe Camera Raw, plus how to use Adobe Bridge for organization and ranking,
Using instructor provided content (training materials and work samples), students will learn how to properly configure Photoshop, navigate the interface and menu options, as well as
effectively use the editing, selection, drawing, design and other tools. Students will also learn how to use filters, blending modes, special effects, layers, selections
and masks to edit photos and design and produce marketing collateral and website ready images. Finally, the Adobe Camera Raw module of Photoshop will be taught, with all its features and
benefits, including synchronization of edits across multiple images simultaneously. This course is designed for Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud only. It is not meant for Adobe
Photoshop Elements or Mobile versions.

Course Objectives

Outline of Instruction

Week 1: Intro: Why Photoshop, Introduction to the interface (terminology, menus, shortcut keys, panels, toolbars), setting preferences, customizing interface, interactivity with Lightroom
and Bridge, handout review, working with sample images, homework assignment, Q&A.

Week 2: Adobe Bridge: Naming and Organizational Protocols, Import, Metadata, Keywords, Rating, Ranking, Sorting. Photoshop: Photo editing in-depth using exposure, contrast,
saturation and related tools; handout review, homework assignment, homework discussion, Q&A.

Week 3: Photoshop: Working with Selections, Layers and Masks; advanced non-destructive editing technique, handout review, working with sample images, homework assignment, Q&A.

Week 4: Photoshop: Filters, Blending Modes, Special Effects, Type, making Black & White images; designing marketing collateral and web-ready images, handout review, working with
sample images, homework assignment, Q&A.

Week 5: Adobe Camera Raw: Introduction to interface; working with Histogram panel, Basic editing panel, Tone Curve panel, interaction with original Photoshop editor, handout review,
homework assignment, homework discussion, Q&A

Week 6: Adobe Camera Raw: Histogram in detail, working with HSL panel, Color panel, Detail panel, handout review, homework assignment, homework discussion, Q&A

Week 7: Adobe Camera Raw: Working with Lens Correction panel, Transform panel, Effects panel, Calibration panel, handout review, homework assignment, homework discussion, Q&A

Week 8: Course recap, combining original Photoshop editor techniques with Adobe Camera Raw to create marketing collaterals and web-ready images using student supplied images;
handout review, homework discussion, Q&A

Prerequisites

Prior to course enrollment, students should type at least 35 words per minute and a basic ability to navigate the Windows operating system.

Note: This course is written using the Windows version of the software. Mac students are welcome, but will need to make standard Windows/Mac keystroke conversions-which are included in the course material.

90% attendance
Demonstrate an understanding of at least 70% of the course material taught.
