American Heart Association BLS Instructor Course

This course is designed to prepare the instructor candidate to teach AHA instructor-led, blended learning course formats. The course shows participants how to use teaching materials, make sure learning objectives are met, provide coaching skills, evaluate skills and performance, and follow AHA policies. This course covers the core content and the discipline-specific content required to teach AHA BLS courses.

Course Objectives

differentiate between effective and poor instructor behaviors and use corrective measures when necessary

Describe the core competencies of an AHA instructor

Identify discipline specific course formats available to students for completion of the course

Describe discipline specific courses completion requirements

Describe discipline specific flexibility options available to an AHA instructor within the course

Describe how to use discipline specific AHA instructor materials. the instructor manual. Lesson plans, course videos, and skills testing checklists

Demonstrate structured debriefing skills

Demonstrate the administration of skills testing with the use of the skills testing check sheet

Demonstrate effective AHA instructor feedback and remediation techniques

Demonstrate the usability of the PAM

Identify resources available to the AHA instructor

Proof of current AHA BLS provider Certification
Proof of alignment with an AHA Training Center (Instructor Candidate Application filled out completely by accepting training center)
Proof of completion of the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials course. This course can be found at https://www.onlineaha.org/courses A copy of the completion certificate must be provided prior to the start of class.
