HM Mission Specific Product Control

This course is designed to cover mission specific responsibilities to a hazardous materials incident that include additional competencies in Product Control of hazardous materials/WMD. This course will present the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and ability to satisfy the requirements of OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications (2017 edition). This course should be offered consistent with the most current NC Fire and Rescue Commission guidelines; contact the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) for details. Effective date July 1, 2020/NFPA 1072 Standard, 2017 edition.

• Describe how to use the following control methods:
o Absorption and adsorption
o Damming
o Diking
o Dilution
o Diversion
o Retention
o Remote valve shut-off
o Vapor dispersion and suppression
• Describe the recovery phase of a hazardous materials incident.
• Use absorption/adsorption to manage a hazardous materials incident.
• Construct an overflow dam.
• Construct an underflow dam.
• Construct a dike.
• Use dilution to manage a hazardous materials incident.
• Construct a diversion.
• Use retention to manage a hazardous materials incident.
• Use vapor dispersion to manage a hazardous materials incident
