HM Mission Specific Air Monitoring

This course is designed to cover mission specific responsibilities to a hazardous materials incident that include additional competencies for Air Monitoring and Sampling of hazardous materials/WMD incidents. This course will present the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and ability to satisfy the requirements of OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications (2017 edition). This course should be offered consistent with the most current NC Fire and Rescue Commission guidelines; contact the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) for details. Effective date July 1, 2020/NFPA 1072 Standard, 2017 edition.

Course Objectives

Chapter 15
• Explain the terminology, concepts, and unknowns of detection and monitoring.
• Identify and describe various types of detectors and monitors.
• Complete the 10 basic actions for detection and monitoring.
• Perform a typical start-up procedure for a multi-gas meter.
• Use a multi-gas meter.
• Use colorimetric tubes.

Requirements for Successful Completion

90% attendance
Students shall successfully complete all practicum assessments with a minimum score of 70. ,Students shall successfully score at or above 70 on all written test(s) for the course.
