Continuing Education Cosmetology II - Intermediate

This course covers more comprehensive cosmetology concepts, such as skin and nail theory to include the study of diseases and disorders of the skin and nails, basic chemistry, electricity, haircutting and hair coloring. To simulate a salon environment, the course includes hands-on training in basic skin and nail care, scalp treatments, shampooing, conditioning, haircutting, hair coloring and related topics.

Course Objectives

Learn to safely and competently apply concepts and procedure of infection control as mandated by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts

Apply concepts of all phases of Cosmetology in a salon setting

Learn the basics of chemistry and electricity

Learn how to safely use basic chemistry and electricity and how they relate to cosmetology and services provided

Identify skin and nail diseases and disorders

Learn how to conduct a thorough analysis of skin and nails prior to a nail service

Learn how to provide basic nail care service

Understand the basic principles of haircutting

Maintain safety in haircutting by following safety and infection control procedures mandated by NCSBCA

Demonstrate a basic haircut using basic techniques

Learn how to use shears and practice basic cuts on manikins that include a razor and clippers

Understand the types of hair color

Understand how the color wheel works as it relates to hair coloring

Learn how to apply color for different services on a manikin

Learn different techniques of highlighting or color application


Outline of Instruction

Review infection control procedures and "Milady" Chapter 7 (or Pivot Point Lab 112.1). Students perform practical skills in a salon setting on live models and mannequins.

"Milady" Chapter 8 (or Pivot Point Lab 112.2). Students perform practical skills in a salon setting on live models and mannequins.

"Milady" Chapter 9 (or Pivot Point 113.1). Students perform practical skills in a salon setting on live models and mannequins.

"Milady" Chapter 10 (or Pivot Point Lab 113.2). Students perform practical skills in a salon setting on live models and mannequins.

"Milady" Chapter 12 (or Pivot Point Lab 102.11, 102.12, 102.13). Students perform practical skills in a salon setting on live models and mannequins.

"Milady" Chapter 13 (or Pivot Point Lab 102.9, 102.10). Students perform practical skills in a salon setting on live models and mannequins.

"Milady" Chapter 16 (or Pivot Point Lab 105.1 - 105.21 and 106.1 - 106.5). Students perform practical skills in a salon setting on live models and mannequins.

"Milady" Chapter 21 (or Pivot Point Lab 110.1 - 110.17). Students perform practical skills in a salon setting on live models and mannequins.
