Admissions Placement Criteria
Applicant admission and placement at Wake Tech is based on the following Reinforced Instruction for Student Excellence - RISE Placement Policy Criteria:
High School GPA
For many placement is based on US high school GPA. (Pre- COVID applicants who graduated from a US high school more than 10yrs. ago were required to take the RISE placement test, unless additional criteria for placement was submitted.)
An applicant may additionally submit documentation of any of the following criteria for placement:
Admission Placement Based on High School Equivalency
Applies to applicants who have applicable High School Equivalency scores taken January 2014 or later with scores as shown below:

Admission Placement Based on US College Degree Completion or College Level Course Grade
For admission and placement based on US college completion of an Associate’s Degree or higher, a transcript showing graduation must be received by admissions
For admission and placement based on college-level coursework, applicants must have received a grade of "C" or better in a college-level English or Math course from a US regionally or nationally accredited institution.
Admission Placement Based on AP Exam Score
If you have taken an AP English or math exam, scores may be provided for review and determination of waiver. Check the AP credit policy at collegeboard.org.
Admission Placement Based on Prior Standard Placement Tests
Applicants may submit COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, ASSET, NCDAP ACCUPLACER, and RISE Placement scores for consideration of placement, if scores are within 10 yrs. old.
TOFEL Internet-Based test with score of 88 may waive English placement testing.
