Explore Austrian culture, history, entrepreneurship and daily life over 11 days through immersive academic and experiential learning activities while earning course credit for INT-110: International Business.

Students examine Austrian society through lectures on culture, tourism, gastronomy and the workplace while experiencing life in Salzburg and its surrounding regions. The program also includes hands-on workshops in traditional cheese making, bread baking and apple strudel preparation, visits to historic landmarks and local markets and excursions to the Salzkammergut region and either Vienna or Munich.

Faculty: The course will be led and taught by Wake Tech faculty member Jeff Myers.

Accommodations: Students stay at a Salzburg College dormitory or in a local hotel, with two to four per room.

Meals: The hotel or college provide a continental breakfast each morning. Other meal options are available in area markets and restaurants.

Cost: $3,464

The cost includes the following:

• A nine-night stay at a hotel in Salzburg or in a Salzburg College dormitory 
• Ground transportation for site visits and sightseeing tours

The following items are not included in the cost:

• Round-trip flights between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Athens. Travel is booked through Wake Tech's travel agency liaison and arrangements made by the course leader.

Daily itinerary

• June 6 (Day 1) – Depart RDU on an overnight flight to Austria
   
• June 17 (Day 2) – Introduction to Austria
  After arriving, students participate in an orientation session and introductory lectures on Austrian history, culture, tourism and gastronomy. The day includes a visit to Stiegl Brauwelt, one of Austria's most well-known breweries, to learn about the country's brewing traditions.
   
• June 8 (Day 3) – Austrian society and Salzburg
  Students explore many of Athens' most famous landmarks, including Syntagma Square, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Hadrian's Arch, Plaka and Monastiraki. In the afternoon, they participate in a traditional Greek cooking class and enjoy a meal prepared together.
   
• June 9 (Day 4) – Rural Austria experience
  Students travel to the Austrian countryside for a hands-on cheese-making and bread-baking workshop at a local farm. The day provides insight into traditional agricultural practices and regional food production. In the evening, students may attend a concert in the Mirabell Gardens.
   
• June 10 (Day 5) – Markets and cross-cultural communication
  Students examine Austria's weekly market culture and sustainable farming practices through lectures and field research at Salzburg's famous Schranne Market. The day concludes with a cross-cultural workshop focused on intercultural communication and global awareness.
   
• June 11 (Day 6) – Arts, culture and entrepreneurship
  Students explore Austria's cultural industries through a visit to the Mozarteum Foundation, dedicated to the life and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The afternoon includes a tour of Fortress Hohensalzburg, one of Europe's largest and best-preserved medieval castles.
   
• June 12 (Day 7) – Salzkammergut region
  Students spend the day exploring the scenic Salzkammergut region, known for its alpine landscapes, lakes and cultural heritage. A guided hike provides opportunities to experience one of Austria's most picturesque regions firsthand.
   
• June 13 (Day 8)
  Students enjoy a free day to explore Salzburg independently, visit museums and cultural sites or experience local cuisine and shopping.
   
• June 14 (Day 9) – Austrian traditions and entrepreneurship
  Students participate in a scavenger hunt exploring traditional Austrian craftsmanship, family-owned businesses, cafés and taverns. They share their findings through presentations before taking part in a hands-on apple strudel baking experience.
   
• June 15 (Day 10) – Vienna or Munich excursion
  Students travel to either Vienna or Munich for a day of cultural and professional exploration. Depending on the destination, activities may include a visit to the United Nations, BMW World, Olympic Park or a guided tour of the historic city center.
   
• June 16 (Day 11) – Depart Austria on a return flight to RDU
