Pharmacy Technician Part 1

The Pharmacy Technician course is the first course in a two-part program that prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification exam (PTCE). This course is designed to help students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to aid in the successful daily operation of a pharmacy. Course modules will emphasize pharmacy job roles and responsibilities, keyboarding accuracy and skills, knowledge of computer hardware and software, communication skills, customer service techniques, payment processing, familiarity with various forms of insurance plans, producing audit logs, and pharmacy law, regulations, and standards. Please note that the Pharmacy Technician Part I course is a non-degree, non-credit Continuing Education course that provides career training and the first step in preparation for an industry-related certification.

Pharmacy Technician Part 2

Pharmacy Technician Part 2 is the second course in a two-part program that prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification exam (PTCE). This course is designed to help students gain the knowledge and skills necessary to aid in the successful daily operation of a pharmacy. Course modules will emphasize pharmacy job roles and responsibilities institutional pharmacy settings. Students also will be provided with an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of pharmacy inventory management, vaccination and immunization skills, understanding of HIPPA laws and how to prepare various types of prescriptions through a 200-hour externship at a pharmacy. In the internship, students also will demonstrate their knowledge of pharmacology, prescriptions, pharmaceutical calculations, and non-sterile compounding. Note: As you approach the internship portion of the course, students will be required to complete a drug screening and background check. If a student does not pass the drug screening and/or background check, s/he can continue working in the Online Working in the Pharmacy Part 2 course, but the student will not be eligible to participate in the pharmacy externship. If a student does not pass the drug screening and/or background check, s/he also has the opportunity to drop the Online Working in the Pharmacy Part II course as long as the drop request is submitted and approved before the course census date.

Medical Coding for Outpatient & Inpatient Services: Part 1

In partnership with Career Step, Wake Tech offers part one of a two-part course preparing students for careers in the medical industry. Coding and billing professionals translate medical records into standardized codes that are used to bill patients and third-party payers, such as Medicare and private insurance companies. Students will also learn administrative office practices relating to health information management, electronic health records, laws and ethics, computer fundamentals, and biomedical sciences (medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and pharmacology). Veterinary Assistant Part 1

Our online Veterinary Assistant classes are designed to help you take the next steps toward a new career in animal care. Throughout your program, you'll work to develop the skills and knowledge that can help you be successful on the job! You'll cover topics like veterinary procedures, small & large animal nursing, pharmacology & radiology, and communication & client relations. Additionally, an externship is included with your Veterinary Assistant program to get hands-on practice, gain valuable knowledge, and apply your training through exposure in the animal care field.

Course Objectives

Describe the roles and duties of the members of the veterinary health care team.

Be able to recognize positive and negative body language in dogs and cats.

Learn the correct anatomical terms used in veterinary medicine, structure and function of organ systems, and common diseases processes related to each organ system.

Explore procedures and processes used in obtaining blood and urine samples.

Veterinary Assistant Part 2

This course is a continuation of Part 1, teaching individuals how to conduct laboratory procedures in an animal care setting, assist with large and exotic animal care, and understand emergency care and triage techniques in preparation for the 100-hour clinical externship.

Course Objectives

Learn how to properly collect, prepare, process specimen samples and assist in veterinary necropsy procedures.

Discuss the health maintenance needs and common diseases of the large animal and exotic animal species.

Demonstrate basic understanding for performing triage
