Cybersecurity

Wake Tech's Cybersecurity program equips students with the knowledge and hands-on experience to protect computers, networks and data from cyber threats. Learn how to implement security controls, detect intrusions and safeguard critical systems across various environments.

Courses include topics such as these:

• Networking technologies and operating systems (Windows and Linux)
• Ethical hacking and digital forensics
• Information security policy and intrusion detection
• Security administration and industry best practices

Students are prepared for the following industry-recognized certifications:

• CompTIA Security+
• Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
• Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI)
• Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate (CCNA CyberOps)
• CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+)
• Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) – Cybersecurity
• ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC)

The program also prepares students to pursue a range of IT certifications related to networking, Windows and Linux operating systems and provides foundational programming skills. The program builds a strong technical foundation that supports success in both cybersecurity and broader IT roles.

Wake Tech Cyber Center

Wake Tech is proud to be designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency, recognizing our role in preparing the next generation of cyber defenders.

The Wake Tech Cyber Center serves as the central hub for the Cybersecurity degree and pathways, advisory partnerships, student engagement and cyber awareness initiatives. It reflects the college's ongoing commitment to developing a skilled and diverse cybersecurity workforce through education, collaboration and hands-on experience.

Students in the Cybersecurity program are required to have the following base hardware to participate in classes:

Minimum requirements

• Operating system: Windows 10 or 11
• Processor: Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 (or higher)
• Memory (RAM): 12 GB
• Storage: 512 GB hard drive (7200 RPM or SSD recommended)
• Webcam: Required for online participation and exam proctoring (when applicable)

Recommended requirements

• Operating system: Windows 10 or 11
• Processor: Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 (or higher)
• Memory (RAM): 16 GB (or more)
• Storage: 512 GB SSD (or larger for improved performance)
• Webcam: Required for online participation and exam proctoring (when applicable)

NOTE: A Windows-based computer is required for the Cybersecurity degree program. Many cybersecurity tools and virtual labs used in course work are not compatible with macOS, Chromebooks, tablets or mobile devices. The program does not provide technical support for non-Windows systems or configurations, such as dual-booting or running Windows in a virtual machine.
