Wake Tech is partnering with Wake County Public School System and local employers to expand opportunities for high school juniors through the Wake Works® Youth Apprenticeship Academy. The program will scale Wake Works® pre-apprenticeship efforts and provide direct support for students and employers. Over three years, the Academy will serve 250 students as they prepare for high-demand, high-wage careers in the skilled trades. Students will participate in structured work-based learning designed to build skills, connect classroom learning to real-world experience, and create pathways to strong careers and greater economic mobility.
Program pathways include the following in-demand fields:
Students will receive support for books, supplies, and transportation, along with a monthly participation stipend during the first year. The program also leverages Career and College Promise to help cover tuition and connects students with Wake Tech’s wraparound support services to promote persistence and completion.
In the second year, students will work with employer partners as paid Registered Youth Apprentices, gaining hands-on experience and industry-relevant skills. After high school graduation, participants may choose to continue their apprenticeship or move directly into the workforce.
Recruitment and applications will open in Fall 2026.
Interested Wake County Public School System high school juniors are encouraged to speak with their career development coordinator or Career and Technical Education faculty for more information.
