RALEIGH, N.C. (November 13, 2025) – Wake Tech is excited to announce that IT graduate Jennifer Medina has been selected as one of 10 cybersecurity interns in the inaugural cohort of the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) internship program.

The program connects students from North Carolina's universities and community colleges with hands-on, paid roles to strengthen the state's cyber workforce pipeline.

As an intern, Medina will work up to 25 hours a week in the NCDIT's Enterprise Security and Risk Management Office. She was selected after completing Wake Tech's unique 33-week Sentinel Cybersecurity Bootcamp. Sentinel, funded by the National Science Foundation, enabled her to earn five IT industry credentials and connected her with a valuable internship at the Carolina Cyber Center. Sentinel was developed in collaboration with IBM, NetApp, NC Tech and other industry partners.

"The Sentinel program has truly been a life-changer for me," she said. "It gave me the chance to dive into fundamentals of cybersecurity and build a strong foundation. I'm deeply committed to building a career in cybersecurity and protecting systems and helping organizations stay secure."

Medina says she's excited about the opportunity to continue growing her security analyst skills and knowledge through the internship.

"None of this would have been possible for me without Wake Tech and the transformative Sentinel program," she says. "It opened the door to a new career and a future I'm genuinely excited about!"

As the leading provider of IT services to state agencies, local governments and educational institutions across North Carolina, NCDIT works closely with other state, local and federal partners to protect the state government's IT systems, data and assets from cyber threats.

The new internship program is also supported by the Carolina Cyber Network, which comprises 23 North Carolina universities and community colleges working to improve cybersecurity resilience statewide.
