RALEIGH, N.C. (August 19, 2025) – The Wake Tech Board of Trustees has approved the master plan for the college's new Conlon Western Wake Campus in Apex.
Conveniently located in the Veridea development near N.C. Highway 55, the N.C. Highway 540 Triangle Expressway and U.S. Highway 1, the Conlon Western Wake Campus will be adjacent to the future 230-acre North Carolina Children's Hospital, the state's first freestanding hospital dedicated to serving the needs of children, and Dell Technologies. It will also be located within 4 miles of new and expanding biopharmaceutical facilities in Holly Springs: Amgen, CSL Seqirus, Fujifilm Biotechnologies and Genentech.
In addition to biotech and health sciences training, the campus will offer business and IT programs, along with the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees for university transfer.
"This campus will be a game-changer, centrally located in a growing part of western Wake County," said Wake Tech President Dr. Scott Ralls. "At this location, we'll be well-positioned to meet the growing workforce needs of area businesses, especially those in the booming life sciences and health care industries."
The master plan for development, designed by HKS Architecture, shows three academic buildings on the 34-acre site. Design work will begin immediately on the first building, which will be named Fujifilm Biotechnologies Hall.
The 125,000-square-foot building will house campus operations such as Admissions, Financial Aid and a library. It will also feature space for specialized biotechnology and advanced manufacturing training to meet the growing needs of nearby biopharma and life sciences companies in Holly Springs and other parts of Wake County. The building will also be the hub for Entrepreneurship & Small Business Center resources and the home of the college's Simulation & Game Development program.
The projected opening date for the new campus is 2029.
Phase 1 development of the Conlon Western Wake Campus is being funded with $115 million from the 2022 Workforce Forward bond, overwhelmingly approved by Wake County voters.
The new Conlon Western Wake Campus will be named in recognition of long-time benefactor Mike Conlon. It will replace the college's current leased facility on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary.
