Held both in person at the Beltline Education Center and virtually on Microsoft Teams, the event showcased the college's non-degree courses and short-term training programs in Spanish. Organizers emphasized the importance of creating inclusive, welcoming spaces that connect students to the opportunity to expand their skills and start new career paths.
"We want the entire Hispanic community to know they have the opportunity to follow the educational path that's right for them," said Katie Covington, director of the High School Equivalency (HEP) program at Wake Tech.
Guests heard presentations from instructors and staff on bilingual and Spanish-language programs in workforce areas such as construction, HVAC, cosmetology and culinary arts. Attendees also visited information tables covering topics like admissions, financial aid, student support services, English as a Second Language, high school equivalency, health programs, hospitality, small-business resources and translation services.
In addition to learning about programs, attendees explored hands-on spaces, including the HVAC and construction labs and the cosmetology salon, getting a firsthand look at the classrooms and tools available to students.
