Wake Tech Collaborates with Red Hat to Offer Red Hat Training and Certification Courses

Raleigh, NC (July 16, 2021) – Wake Technical Community College today announced that it is collaborating with Red Hat to bring high-quality IT training to more students. With this announcement, Wake Tech becomes the first institution to offer Red Hat’s Certified System Administrator training as a short-term, stand-alone certification course. The four-month, non-degree course is designed to give students a unique set of skills for entry into an IT career, and to help current IT professionals enhance skills for advancement in the field. The program will begin in August 2021.

“We’re extremely excited to work with Red Hat on this program,” said Wake Tech President Dr. Scott Ralls, “because the skills this training provides are absolutely vital to our region. The Triangle is known for its outstanding tech companies, and we know those companies must have a highly-skilled workforce to grow and thrive.”

The relationship with Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, gives students access to Red Hat Certified System Administrator instruction at a reduced cost. The program has two parts, Red Hat System Administration I and Red Hat System Administration II, and will be offered in all formats: in-person, online, and hybrid (a mix of in-person and online). The program teaches students to work on the installation and maintenance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and prepares them to take the Red Hat Certified System Administrator exam.

“We’re pleased to collaborate with Wake Tech to bring Red Hat Training and Certification to its students,” said Karl Reynolds, senior director of global learning services at Red Hat. “With this new offering, we are helping to address the skills gap in the local community and enable students to keep up with the rapid pace of innovation in the technology industry.”

For the last 20 years, the Red Hat Global Training and Certification program has had a single goal: validating skills through a program with rigorous, hands-on testing. Red Hat Training enables organizations tasked with digital transformation to keep their teams ready for what’s next with hands-on training and preparation. Red Hat Certification can help system administrators, application developers and IT architects advance their careers. In fact, a recent IDC white paper sponsored by Red Hat[1], found that developers who have earned and maintained Red Hat certifications are also linked to a 24% higher productivity level when compared to their non-certified counterparts.

Students who complete the certification exam will be offered support and resources through Red Hat, such as career counseling, mentoring, networking opportunities, and invitations to lectures and other events.  They will also have opportunities for credit in a Wake Tech degree program.

Wake Tech’s Red Hat Certified System Administrator program is the newest addition to the college’s IT Power Packs – bundled short-term courses designed to help students earn industry-recognized credentials for career advancement, that have the added benefit of articulating to credit in Wake Tech’s information technology degree programs. It is also part of WakeWorks Propel, which offers scholarships of up to $750 for the unemployed and underemployed.
