Curbside Graduation Celebration Recognizes Student Veterans

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 15, 2020) – Wake Tech hosted another curbside celebration to recognize a special group of graduates. The college honored student veterans during a drive-by ceremony at the Public Safety Education Campus.

Graduates who have served in the military received honor cords, an engraved coin and pen, and a gift card.

Wake Tech president Dr. Scott Ralls was on hand to congratulate the graduates.

“We have a special appreciation for our veteran graduates,” said Dr. Ralls. “They have served our country in our military forces, honored us by being Wake Tech students, and now as graduates, serve our communities through their work. Thank you!”

The students enjoyed the special event, which replaced a dinner that was cancelled because of the pandemic.

“It is so nice to get this recognition,” said Abraham Wesley, a student veteran. “I am really grateful for the commitment that Wake Tech makes to veterans and the support we get at the college.”

There are 75 veterans graduating from Wake Tech with a variety of associates degrees, including Nursing, Cyber Security, and Criminal Justice Technology.

Wake Tech provides a variety of services for veterans (and their family members) pursuing education, training, and professional development: accelerated training programs, assistance with VA benefits and financial aid, and options for translating military experience into workplace credentials.
