Tributes Honor Local Veterans

RALEIGH, N.C. (November 7, 2018) - With flags waving and patriotic tunes, Wake Tech saluted students, staff, and members of the community who serve or have served.

Dozens of people attended a ceremony in the Scott Northern Wake Campus Lecture Hall. The event included patriotic music from the 82nd Airborne All-American Brass Quintet and a song from the Wake Tech Inspirational Choir Ensemble.

“Our annual Veterans Day ceremony is a chance to say thank you,” says Sam Strickland, Senior Vice President for Military and Veteran Programs. “We should always remember the sacrifices veterans have made for our country.” Strickland, who is also a veteran, delivered the keynote address and talked about serving in the U.S. Air Force at the end of the Vietnam War.

There was also a special patriotic display. The U.S. Army Celebrate Freedom Helicopter was parked on campus and drew quite a crowd. People viewed the helicopter, learned about the importance of military aircraft, and even took pictures while sitting in the cockpit.

Wake Tech provides a variety of services for veterans (and their family members) pursuing education, training, and professional development: accelerated training programs, assistance with VA benefits and financial aid, and options for translating military experience into workplace credentials.
