Health and Fitness Summit Showcases Learning Outside the Classroom

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 26, 2018) - Wake Tech students “flexed” their muscles at the college’s first annual Health and Fitness summit today at the Scott Northern Wake Campus. Experts on a variety of topics, including strength and conditioning and nutrition, were on hand to discuss the latest trends and topics – which are constantly changing. There were also demonstrations and fitness classes, including yoga and corrective exercise.

Wake Tech’s Health and Fitness Science program trains the exercise professionals who help people in our community get healthy and stay in shape. This summit gave students an opportunity to learn outside the classroom and gain extra tools to help them get hired and assist clients with achieving their health and fitness goals.

The program is the first community college in the state (and fourth in the nation) to earn accreditation from CAAHEP, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. It is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the fitness and exercise industry. Students are trained in exercise science and are able to administer basic fitness tests and health risk appraisals, teach specific exercise and fitness classes and provide instruction in the proper use of exercise equipment and facilities.
