Translator-Turned-Entrepreneur Offers Advice on Starting a Business

Wake Tech Event is Second in Entrepreneurship Speaker Series

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 29, 2010) - Be passionate! That's the advice from Yasmin Wurts Metivier, co-founder of Panoltia, Inc., a business dedicated to helping Latino immigrants and American businesses understand each other and work together. Metivier shared her secrets for success at the Holly Springs Cultural Center today at a special event sponsored by the Wake Tech/Wachovia Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship.

Born and raised in Mexico, Metivier told other small business owners and would-be entrepreneurs that the key to starting a successful small business is do something you love and be the best you can be. "I like to talk!" she said, explaining how she became a translator. Metivier has worked for large companies and government agencies and even served as a translator for NC Governor Jim Hunt. She's co-written manuals, done voiceovers and developed training for other interpreters. She has also created the award-winning "Hispanic Community Outreach Audio Series," focusing on life skills and financial literacy.

Metivier maintains that small businesses need the flexibility to continue evolving. "You must always be thinking, ‘Where else can I go? Where else can I get business?'" Metivier holds advanced degrees in business administration and marketing. She has lived and worked in several countries and currently lives in Apex.

The Wake Tech/Wachovia Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship was established in January 2010 with a grant from Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company as a resource center for potential small business owners. The Entrepreneur Speaker Series is a quarterly program where successful entrepreneurs share stories about their business ventures. The Center also offers scholarships for curriculum programs for college credit as well as continuing education courses, seminars and events, one-on-one counseling, small business resources, and a virtual "colony" of entrepreneurs for sharing ideas online.
