Wake Tech Partnership Encourages Students to Vote
RALEIGH, N.C. (September 10, 2012) - With just two months until the 2012 election, political hype is mounting – and it can be overwhelming to new voters. TurboVote, a new Web-based service, is aimed at making the voting process as easy as using Netflix. Wake Tech is partnering with TurboVote to engage voters who are technology-savvy and who expect instant access to the latest information.
Students can sign up by going to https://waketech.turbovote.org, where they can find an election calendar that includes national and local races. If not yet registered, students can use a pre-populated voter registration that comes with a pre-addressed, pre-stamped envelope. If they prefer voting by mail, pre-populated absentee ballots are also available. TurboVote also sends text messages and email reminders to help students get forms in on time – and get to the polls on election day.
“We all know how fortunate we are to live in a democracy,” says Rita Jerman, Wake Tech Senior Vice President for Student Services, “but democracy only works when we all participate. We’re excited about this service and hope students will take full advantage of it.”
Wake Tech students aren’t the only ones who can take advantage of TurboVote. Anyone in the community can update voter registration information, request an absentee ballot, or get election reminders through TurboVote. The service is available on the Google Politics & Elections webpage.
TurboVote has formal partnerships with 50 universities, including UNC-Charlotte, Miami-Dade Community College, Elon University, Columbia University, and Boston University.
