Wake Tech Foundation Director Leads National Board
RALEIGH, N.C. (January 7, 2013) - Mort Congleton, Wake Tech’s Senior Vice President of Development and Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation, will serve as president of the Board of Directors for the Council for Resource Development (CRD) in Washington, DC, for the 2013 term. CRD supports 775 community colleges across the U.S. by developing leaders through education, advocacy, and mentoring. Congleton was elected at the group’s 46th annual national conference, which took place November 5-10 in Washington, D.C.
“Mort will help guide CRD’s strategic vision to provide the gold standard in professional development and advocacy for our members,” said Polly Binns, CRD Executive Director. “Mort brings a unique perspective to the CRD board. His background in public service and private business will certainly help guide our organization to new levels of service.”
As president of the 2013 CRD Board of Directors, Congleton will be a leader in strategic resource development for community colleges nationwide and will represent the organization at meetings and workshops across the country. He will also preside over the CRD’s national conference.
Congleton has previously served as Treasurer and Regional Director for CRD. A former member of the Raleigh City Council, he joined Wake Tech as Foundation Director in 2005. Under his leadership, total assets for the Wake Tech Foundation have jumped from $2.4 million to $8.3 million. Before coming to Wake Tech, Congleton was Executive Director of the SPCA of Wake County and was instrumental in creating the vision for the nationally-recognized Curtis Dail Pet Adoption Center.
