BioNetwork Capstone Center Hosts Biomanufacturing Open House

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 10, 2013) - The BioNetwork Capstone Center held an open house Thursday, October 10, and more than 100 industry professionals and job seekers gathered for a behind-the-scenes look at the simulated biomanufacturing facility.

“We were thrilled to showcase our hands-on facility for industry leaders, and to highlight the broad spectrum of customized training and short-course certificate programs we offer at Wake Tech,” said Ana McClanahan, dean of the BioNetwork Capstone Center.

Situated in the Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) on the Centennial Campus of NC State University, the Capstone Center's training facilities mirror a biomanufacturing plant, with state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and a certified clean room suite. Wake Tech is the lead college in the Capstone Center Consortium, which includes seven North Carolina community colleges.

The open house activities included equipment demonstrations, tours of the aseptic cleanroom facilities, and a hands-on look at the STEM bus – a mobile lab designed to inspire students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Participating agencies included NC State University's BTEC (Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center), NC Central University's BRITE (Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise), and the NC Biosciences Organization.
