Math Skills Add Up To Success For Wake Tech Students
RALEIGH, N.C. (November 16, 2013) - Wake Tech students fared well at the third annual Calculus Tournament held by the North Carolina Mathematics Association for Two-Year Colleges (NCMATYC). The tournament was held in the Student Services Building on Wake Tech’s Main Campus on Saturday, November 16. Dozens of students from across North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama came together to put their calculus skills to the test.
Three Wake Tech students won individual awards: Omar Saffouri won 2ndplace; Diwash Thapa, 3rd place; and John Anderson, 4th place.
In the team competition, which included 10 rounds of questions, Wake Tech students John Anderson, Joseph Caswell, and David Martin took 3rd place honors.
Wake Tech-Main Campus placed 2nd overall for a combination of team and individual scores. The top individual scorers, Omar Saffouri, John Anderson, Alex Bessey and Qurat Khan, contributed to the overall ranking. All are members of the Wake Tech Main Campus Math Club. Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, took first place in all three categories!
