RALEIGH, N.C. (September 11, 2014) - Wake Tech marked September 11th with a tribute to that day’s victims and heroes, along with recognition of the first responders in our own community who risk their lives every day. Public safety professionals joined college leaders and other members of the community at the Public Safety Education Campus for the event.
“Today we honor the men and women who go toward danger, instead of away from it, for the purpose of protecting others,” said Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott. “This facility is dedicated to training those heroic first responders.”
Phil Matthews, Chair of the Wake County Commissioners, echoed Dr. Scott’s sentiments, expressing appreciation for “the selfless acts of service that these folks perform.” Lisa Bender, from the Tunnel to Tower Foundation, an organization supporting first responders, reminded guests of the importance of remembering not only the heroes of 9/11, but the thousands whose lives were saved because of their heroism. “They served and sacrificed for all of us,” Bender said.
