Wake Tech Director of Entrepreneurship Initiatives Receives Women in Business Award

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 23, 2018) - Wake Tech Director of Entrepreneurship Initiatives Katie Gailes has received one of the 2018 Triangle Business Journal Women in Business awards. Gailes was one of 25 winners honored at an event at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, and was selected for her role as a “behind the scenes leader.” Each winner was asked to share advice she would give to her 21-year-old self. Gailes advised to, “Take more risks. Be bold!”

At Wake Tech, Gailes oversees the Wake Tech-Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship, which offers courses, mentoring services, and scholarship opportunities to help small business owners and entrepreneurs start and grow a business. She also spearheads a variety of initiatives, including StartUp@WakeTech, which connects current students with real-life business projects; as well as LaunchRaleigh, a community-based economic development driver that strives to create successful entrepreneurs who have limited access to financial and business resources.

“Katie is a great innovator and inspiration to people inside and outside Wake Tech, and we are proud of the positive impact she has on our community,” said Barbara Brothers, Executive Director of Wake Tech Corporate and Business Solutions.
