Staying Focused On Academic Goals With A "Single Stop"
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 18, 2016) - Wake Tech held a celebration today of its successful six-month partnership with Single Stop, a non-profit program that connects students with community resources. Single Stop helps students find services and assistance to help with life’s challenges – so that they can stay focused on reaching their academic goals. Wake Tech is one of only four North Carolina community colleges that offer the program.
“Single Stop is a valuable resource for providing students with assistance when they need it,” said Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott. “We want them to concentrate on their studies and achieve success in college.”
Resources include healthcare benefits counseling, financial counseling, legal advice, and referrals for other services and resources on campus and in the community. During tax season, Single Stop brought tax preparers to campus to help students with their returns, free of charge!
“Single Stop helped me complete my tax forms and I was able to get health insurance,” said Yusuf Mahmoud, a Wake Tech student. “I am extremely grateful for the help I received – now I can focus on my studies.”
The partnership with Single Stop is made possible by a generous grant from the John M. Belk Endowment.
