RALEIGH, N.C. (April 26, 2016) - Culinary students from across North Carolina demonstrated both technical skill and artistry this week at the 2016 Culinary Arts Showcase. Wake Tech hosted the event on Tuesday, April 26, on Main Campus – to the delight of dozens of people from the community!
Students from Wake Tech, Sandhills Community College, and Johnson and Wales University displayed elegant pastry creations and presented their concept bakery businesses. On sale were breads and other delicious baked goods, imaginative desserts, and homemade ice cream.
Culinary Federation(ACF) judges selected winners in cake, bread, cold platter and showpiece categories. Entries were judged on artistry, craftsmanship, theme, and presentation and were awarded points using the official ACF scale. The judges awarded 36 bronze medals, 23 silver, and nine gold. Eight of the nine gold medals went to Wake Tech students, including Heather Therien, who won Best of Show for her chocolate buffet platter.
Wake Tech’s Annual Culinary Arts Showcase is an opportunity to highlight the talents of culinary students from across the state. The event is an end-of-year project for students in Wake Tech’s associate degree programs in Culinary Arts.
