Board Of Trustees Names New Chairman
N.C. (July 28, 2016) - The Wake Tech Board of Trustees has named Tom Looney its new chair. Looney joined the board in 2013 and succeeds Harvey Montague.
Looney retired from Lenovo North America in 2015, whereas VP and General Manager he was responsible for the company’s enterprise, public sector, federal and global accounts. Before joining Lenovo, he spent 31 years with IBM. Looney is a member of the Board of Trustees for the NC School of Science and Math and the Economic Development Partnership of NC. He also serves on the President’s Council for the NC Coastal Federation. Looney holds an undergraduate degree in Commerce from Niagara University in Lewiston, New York, and an MBA in Marketing from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott said the board’s new leader brings experience that is valuable and timely: “We are delighted to have Tom at the helm. His background will be a tremendous asset as we look to the opening of our RTP Campus and continue to expand to serve this thriving region.“
The Board of Trustees also named a new vice-chair, board member Doris Huebner. And a new trustee, John Tibiri, was appointed to the board by the Wake County Board of Commissioners. Tibiri is President of the Mid-Atlantic Division of Martin Marietta.
Outgoing Chair Harvey Montague, the board’s longest-serving trustee, was recognized at the June meeting. Montague, a general contractor and developer, has devoted his career to the growth of the Wake County community. He established Montague Building Company in the early 1960s, constructing churches, homes, and commercial properties throughout the region.
The Wake Tech Board of Trustees has 12 members, appointed by the governor, the Wake County Board of Commissioners, and the Wake County Board of Education. A Wake Tech student also serves on the board ex-officio. Trustees establish college policy, approve the annual budget, advocate for the college and its programs, and select the college president.
