Wake Tech Holds Fall 2016 Commencement Exercises
RALEIGH, N.C. (December 10, 2016) - Nearly 800 Wake Tech students received degrees and diplomas today, in preparation for entering the workforce or continuing their studies at a four-year institution. Two ceremonies were held, at 9:00 a.m. and at noon, in the gymnasium on Main Campus.
Kenneth Eshenbaugh was the commencement speaker at the 9:00 a.m. ceremony. He graduated with an AAS degree in Business Analytics – which he adds to a bachelor’s and a master’s degree! He encouraged fellow graduates to continue expanding their knowledge: “Lifelong learning isn’t just a hobby. It’s a way to keep your skill set current and relevant.”
At the noon ceremony, Radiography graduate Michelle Freer spoke. Freer came to Wake Tech to pursue a second career after raising four daughters. “Graduation is a stepping stone and a milestone,” she says. “Our experiences at Wake Tech have prepared us for whatever comes next.” Ninety percent of Wake Tech’s Career Programs graduates like Michelle are employed within 90 days of graduation.
The graduates were encouraged to get involved and give back:
“You are the future of our way of life,” Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott said. “Take what you have learned and make a difference in our community.”
Board of Trustees Chair Tom Looney echoed Dr. Scott’s advice. “You are all very special – proud graduates of Wake Tech. Now, become a positive role model for others trying to find their own path to a successful career and happiness.”
The graduates ranged in age from 18 to 65 and included a husband and wife and a mother and daughter.
