Northern Wake Campus Celebrates 10 Years as New Semester Begins

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 16, 2017) - It’s back to the books for nearly 23,000 Wake Tech students! The fall 2017 semester began today, and students flooded Wake Tech’s five campuses to meet new friends, find classes, and ask questions about advising and financial aid. For the first time, Wake Tech is offering career programs at its Northern Wake Campus on Louisburg Road, which is celebrating 10 years of service to the Wake County community.

The Northern Wake Campus opened in 2007 with two instructional buildings and a regional plant for heating and cooling. It now features eight buildings, two parking decks, a three-story library and learning commons, a 300-seat lecture hall, a high-tech STEM lab, and tennis and volleyball courts. Northern Wake also includes all the services and amenities of a robust Wake Tech campus, including admissions, advising, and financial aid. The campus serves about 17,000 students annually.

The newest facilities at Northern Wake include a state-of-the-art kitchens with industrial ovens, walk-in coolers and freezers, and much more; expansive welding, plumbing, and HVAC labs; and a 15,000-square-foot gymnasium with fitness training equipment. Career programs in Baking & Pastry Arts; Welding; Plumbing; Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration; and Health & Fitness Science will now be available there. The expansion makes it possible for Wake Tech to serve more students, offer training in highly-specialized fields, and ultimately help more of the region’s citizens find employment and career advancement.

Wake Tech is bursting at the seams to accommodate community demand for education and training. The college expands programs, adds faculty, and constructs new facilities when possible; it also builds capacity by adding online course offerings. Wake Tech is North Carolina’s largest community college, with more than 72,000 students – and more online students than any other community college in the state.
