Additional Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles
RALEIGH, N.C. (January 5, 2017) - Wake Tech Community College offers charging stations for electric vehicles – for students, faculty, staff, and the community – and will soon have two more! Duke Energy is providing funding for the two new stations, which will be located on the Southern Wake (Main) Campus in parking lot A.
“This is a great opportunity for Wake Tech to expand an initiative that has already been very successful,” said Wake Tech president Dr. Stephen Scott. “An increasing number of electric vehicle drivers are coming to our campuses, and we’re excited to be able to provide this service – and it’s another way to show our support for students, employees, and our community.”
Duke Energy will pay for installation of the stations as part of the company’s EV Charging Infrastructure Support Project. The program has provided $1 million to help cities and towns across the state make charging stations available for residents.
"Over the past decade, Duke Energy has supported the development of several hundred electric vehicle charging stations in North Carolina," said David Fountain, Duke Energy's North Carolina president. "Adoption of EVs depends on a robust infrastructure for consumers."
The Duke Energy program was part of a recent settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and environmental groups.
With the two new stations, Wake Tech will have a total of six electric vehicle charging stations: four on Southern Wake (Main) Campus and two more at the Northern Wake Campus on Louisburg Road.
